For four decades, Linda Leaks has been a force for housing justice in the District of Columbia.

Through her visionary organizing, she has helped many DC residents create affordable home ownership

by converting their rental apartment buildings into resident-owned cooperatives.

In one the most rapidly gentrifying cities in the US…

these cooperatives continue to provide stability and security for many people.

Honoring Linda

Linda was recognized for her heroic work, and inducted into the Cooperative Hall of Fame, on October 5th, 2023!

Special thanks to Empower DC, Rochdale Capital, the Coalition for Non-profit Housing & Economic Development, National Cooperative Bank, ONE DC, cooperative developer Martha Davis, Development Corporation of Columbia Heights, and many individual donors. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Because of the generous support of many people and organizations, 22 members of the co-ops that Linda helped to create were able to attend the celebration with her.

Thank you so much.
